To begin with, our world is impossible without computers. They have changed our life completely. Computers do a lot of “work”: they store, find, retrieve information. There are some computers that can in a few seconds exchange more words that have ever been spoken in the whole history of mankind. I think it is a good progress. If the car industry had developed at the same rates as the computers over the past few years, a Rolls-Royce would now cost 50 p.

Every equipment has many advantages and, of course, a lot of disadvantages. Let’s start by considering pros and cons of it.

First and foremost, computers can do many very boring jobs quickly and accurately. One should note here that computers are the “workers” who work every day without pauses. It is often said that possibilities of computers are limitless. It is undeniable that computers do not need a salary and are always in good spirit (it is a riddle). We cannot do work and do not get salary and be in good spirit. It is really impossible! A New Scientist article reported that within five years most Western countries will be issuing their citizens with a machine-readable passport that will carry with in the threat of global surveillance of innocent travellers. But in such equipment we can find advantages: it will not allow going the murders/kidnappers abroad.

On the other hand, computers have caused a lot of unemployment. People suffer from starvation. Computers cause a lot of eyes diseases. Moreover, people need eyeglasses. Computers do not understand people’s feelings. If a man needs money to buy a piece of bread, computer will not understand that. Computers need people’s control. None of computers will work without people’s “help”. Computers need energy.

The arguments we have presented, suggest that people need computers in different spheres of life. We use computers to do our accounts, to store information about people who keep money in banks, to store information about mobile telephones ant their owners. We use computers to keep information about guests, about time of their arrival and departure, about cost of a single-, double room. We use them to store information about official meetings; people, who need material help; about average salary of people who work in a town. We use computers to keep information about patients, their illnesses, cost of each course of treatment.  The most important thing is that computers can give untruthful information and it causes a lot of trouble: people can be turned down for a job after wrong information.

To draw the conclusion, one can say that a computer has both advantages and disadvantages.
