Distance education over the world

1. Distance education over the world has a history of more than 100 years. (1) But it gained popularity only after 1970’s. Many countries like China, England, Japan, Russia, Spain and the USA use this method, especially in higher education.

2. For example, Open University in England has more than 80,000 students who take about 140 courses per year. This University has 260 local teaching and 13 regional informational centres. Such factors as age, place, daily activity do not serve as limiting factors in distance education. (2) Distance education has two main advantages over traditional classroom education. The first advantage is a solution to the problem of teaching staff shortage and the second one is the low cost of education which gives many people an opportunity to receive higher education.

3. (4) What is distance education? DE is an integral form of training based on the use of a wide spectrum of traditional and new informational technologies and technical means. It is a system of education for different people at any age. (3) What does the progress of distance education imply? It gives you an opportunity to get higher education in accordance with the state educational standards in distance form without discontinuing work and quitting the place of living.

4. (5) Social changes have certainly transformed distance education considerably. Possibility of varying the length and order of training, using the most up-to-date training means, adaptability to any level of previous education. Modularity of education achieved through localization of studied subjects in integral courses from which it is possible to form any variety of training curricula.

2. Например, в Открытом университете в Англии обучается более 80 000 студентов, которые проходят около 140 курсов в год. Этот университет имеет 260 местных учебных и 13 региональных информационных центров. Такие факторы, как возраст, место, повседневная активность не служат лимитирующими факторами в дистанционном обучении. (2) Дистанционное обучение имеет два основных преимущества по сравнению с традиционным обучением в классе. Первое преимущество – это решение проблемы нехватки преподавательских кадров, второе – низкая стоимость обучения, которая дает многим возможность получить высшее образование.

ДО представляет собой интегральную форму обучения, основанную на использовании широкого спектра традиционных и новых информационных технологий и технических средств. Это система образования для разных людей в любом возрасте. (3) Что означает развитие дистанционного образования? Это дает возможность получить высшее образование в соответствии с ГОСО в дистанционной форме, не отрываясь от работы и не покидая места жительства.

4. (5) Социальные изменения, безусловно, значительно изменили дистанционное образование. Возможность варьирования продолжительности и порядка обучения, использование самых современных средств обучения, адаптация к любому уровню предыдущего образования. Модульность образования достигается за счет локализации изучаемых предметов в интегральных курсах, из которых можно формировать любую разновидность учебных программ.
