William and Kate

His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales – now the Duke of Cambridge – and Miss Catherine Middleton – now her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge are married in Westminster Abbey on Friday April 29th, 2011. They have known each other for many years, having first met at Andrew’s University in 2001. The public knew little about their friendship until they were first pictured there in June 2004.

Before going to University she took a year off, during which she studied at the British Institute in Florence and spent some time working in Chile. After graduating from St. Andrew’s in 2005 she worked in the fashion industry and later for her parents’ firm – a party-organizing business. Catherine’s hobbies include sports like tennis, swimming and sailing as well as photography and painting.

Before going to St. Andrew’s Prince William was educated at Eton College. During his gap year he took part in Army training exercises in Belize, spent more time in Chile teaching children and also worked in Africa. Since leaving University Prince William has followed a military career. In 2009 he trained to become a helicopter pilot. Alongside his military career Prince William has become involved in a number of charities, some of which reflect the interests of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The royal couple announced their engagement on November 16th, 2010. Catherine’s engagement ring, a blue sapphire surrounded by fourteen diamonds had been Prince William’s mother’s engagement ring.

They have been married for three and a half years. They are a happy family with a son, George who was born in 2012. Catherine is loved not only by the Royal family, she is very popular with British people.
