I am a student of Volgograd State Technical University. Volgograd State Technical University (VSTU) is a leading higher educational institution in the Volga region and a major scientific center in the South of Russia. It is one of the leaders of the country’s technical universities. Today, VSTU is a modern multi-campus university with a promising educational, scientific and industrial infrastructure. I dreamed of connecting my life with chemistry, so now I am a second-year student of the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology.

When we first started studying chemistry in the eighth grade, this science immediately attracted my attention. Studying was interesting and easy for me. The chemical properties and reactions were fascinating. And in the ninth grade, I finally made a decision that affected my whole life. I decided to devote my life to studying chemistry, so I chose VSTU.

Studying at my university is not easy, because during a year we study a wide variety of disciplines. For example, in the first year we attended lectures not only in technical areas, but also in the humanities. So, we had subjects such as sociology and philosophy, as well as mathematics and drawing. In the second year, we continue studying general subjects, but there are more technical subjects this year.

I like studying here not only because I study my favorite science. I like my group, which I was assigned to. I like to communicate, learn something new, laugh and joke a lot. Together with our classmates, we go through all the difficulties, tests, exams.

My university provides good knowledge in many subjects, but the lack of modern equipment sometimes worsens the learning process. Laboratories, installations, software and computer software are mostly outdated. There is little new equipment and most students do not get the opportunity to use it.

Student life at our university is eventful. Every year, our university has competitions where even an uncreative person can take part in. For example, last year I participated in the freshman competition «The Time of the First», as well as in the competition «The Best student Leader» as a support group. Every semester, scientific competitions, Olympiads and conferences are held at our university, where any student can prove himself and show his knowledge. VSTU gives students an opportunity not only to get knowledge, but also to develop creatively, find new friends or acquaintances, engage in sports and scientific activities.

It is important to get a higher education in the modern world, so even in the ninth grade I thought about where I want to go and what I would like to connect my life with. To be successful in life, it is important to find a vocation, so my parents always told me to follow my heart and do only what I like. If a person makes a choice of his profession under pressure or unconsciously, then he will treat it as a burden of life. He will not be interested in studying, and subsequently working, so I approached the choice of my profession with all responsibility.

So what is my future profession? Having entered the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, I chose the profession of a chemical engineer.

A chemical engineer is a specialist in the development and implementation of new technologies and improvement of existing technologies in the production of chemical products and processing of raw materials. There are a large number of multidirectional sections in the field of chemical technologies where a chemical engineer is engaged in his work duties or makes scientific discoveries. The activity of a chemical engineer is often associated with substances that can have a harmful effect on the human body or pose another danger. The demand for chemical technology specialists is quite high. This job is well-paid, and many graduates find jobs according to their specialty. The high demand for competent and responsible chemical engineers is high because chemistry, as a field of science, is a complex discipline. Not everyone can master this field, because you need to study a lot, know a lot and work hard to achieve results.

Chemical engineers can get jobs in three different types of institutions. Firstly, in research institutes whose activities are based on medicine, oil or food technology. Secondly, a chemical technologist can go to work in the field of education. For example, to go to work at a college or university, because there are many vacancies for chemistry teachers in educational institutions. Thirdly, a chemical engineer can go to work at a factory or production. For the most part, these are enterprises whose activities are related to chemicals and chemical production. He can also go to work for the perfume production.

My dream is to become an experienced and well-paid specialist in chemistry. After graduation, I want to get a job at LUKOIL Oil Company or another company that is popular and necessary for the country. I want to become a specialist who will benefit the country and the people living in it.

I do not regret my choice of university and the choice of my faculty. I like studying chemistry, learning something new, learning from experienced teachers. I am only a second-year student, so there are many interesting and informative things in future. Soon I will have to start studying specialized subjects, and I am sure that studying will only become more difficult. However, I hope that eventually I will get a higher education and be able to get a well-paid job. I will do my best to make my dream come true!
