On week-days the alarm-clock wakes me up and my working day begins. It is seven o’clock. If it is spring or summer I jump out of bed, run to the window and open it wide to let the fresh morning air in. The bright sun and the singing of birds set me onto a cheerful working mood. In winter I am not so quick to leave my bed, and I bury my head under the pillows pretending not to hear the alarm-clock.

But all the same, it is time to get up and I start getting ready for my work.  I do my bed and go to the bathroom where I turn on the hot and cold taps. While the water is running into the bath, I clean (brush) my teeth. Then I turn off the taps and have my bath. Sometimes I have a shower. If I am not short of time, I tidy up my room. I am through with it in 10 minutes.  While I am having breakfast, I switch on the radio and listen to the news.

Breakfast, as doctors say, must be the most substantial meal of the day. But I have neither time nor inclination to cook it, so I just have a cup of coffee and some sandwiches. I live in the suburbs, and every week-day I commute to town.

I leave the house at ten minutes to eight, and as I live quite near the station I like to walk there in any weather. My train to town leaves at 8.10. I arrive in town at a quarter to nine. On my way to the office I often meet my fellow-workers and colleagues and we go on together talking shop.

My working day starts at 9 sharp, I work till half past twelve and then I go out for dinner to a self-service canteen which is just round the corner. It does not take me long to have my midday meal. I return to my office at half past one and work steadily till six. During my working hours I haven’t a spare moment to think of my University classes. I am a student at the Evening Department of the University.

We have classes four times a week, and on other days I often spend my evenings in the reading-room of our library preparing my homework. It is not easy to work and study at the same time, but I feel great satisfaction when I think of the future.

Sometimes friends come to my place and we play chess; sometimes we go to the pictures or the theatre, but not very often. In summer I like to get out more, so  in the evenings I go to the tennis court for a few sets of tennis, or take out my bike for a run in the country.

Our life is given to us not only to study and work, because many people think so. They are constantly immersed in work or books, they are not distracted even for an instant rest. But I believe that all people should find free time and devote it to interesting things. Of course, if a person enjoys learning, he can spend his free time in this way, but I prefer other types of recreation.

I like to spend my free time in different ways. Sometimes the best option for me is to stay at home and read an interesting book. But sometimes I want to spend time with my friends walking in the park. I find most types of recreation in summer: hiking in the forest, rollerblading and biking, picnic in nature, going to the beach. The last one I love the most! There are so many interesting things you can do near the river: swim, play volleyball, fish.

Free time should be fun and enjoyable. Being constantly engaged in boring and uninteresting things, you can’t feel the real taste of life, but it’s so wonderful, funny, interesting! Now, when we are at school, we have a lot of free time, because we have vacations four times a year, and in the summer for three whole months we can rest and enjoy life.

I like traveling very much. Although I have been abroad only in the neighboring countries, I have visited many cities in Russia. Every summer I visit a children’s camp in one of the best corners of the Motherland. I was already in Mistral, I saw wide steppes; rested on the Crimean coast; enjoyed the nature of Karelia; rejoiced in the sun of Sochi; admired the beauty of the Mountains.

Each new trip for me is not just new impressions and emotions, it is an invaluable experience of communicating with new wonderful people, the opportunity to find new friends, to be in fun adventures and situations. And how I love to observe the nature of different lands. Ukraine only at first glance has the same nature everywhere, but in fact, each region is unique and beautiful in its own way.

I know there are people who do not like to spend time this way. And I think they cannot be judged. Each person spends his free time the way he wants. After all, the word «free» is associated with freedom of choice, and freedom is always a pleasure. Someone enjoys playing chess, someone loves to travel, someone writes poetry, and someone reads scientific works in physics. This is the beauty of life — in the variety of types of recreation. And there will always be someone who shares your interests.

However, the only thing that remains mandatory for everyone is the availability of free time. After all, this is an opportunity not only to relax, to realize oneself, to escape from the main activity. Rest has benefits not only for mental health but also for physical health. Constant employment with work can undermine health, spoil the state of health, therefore, a change in activity is not just a recommendation, it is a vital necessity.

You should use every free minute for your own pleasure, for joy, for things that give you a feeling of happiness.
