The title of the story is “Thinking about Hemingway…” The author of the story is Konstantin Simonov.

The story tells us about Simonov’s attitude to the great writer.

At the beginning of the story the author mentions that Hemingway is inseparable for him from his books and heroes. He depicts that he loved strength, breadth, courage, willingness to stand up for himself and for his matter. The author points out that it is impossible to imagine Hemingway, who would forgive his hero treachery or cowardice, betrayal or sale of his ideas. The author of the story passes on to moral principles that his characters breathe and which he considered mandatory for himself.

After that, the author Simonov mentions the wars where Hemingway fought: the World War I, the Civil War in Spain and the Second World War.

He says that the World War I was strange to him. And this attitude is expressed in the novel “A Farewell to Arms!” The Spanish Civil War was his war. The author emphasizes that he fought on the side of the Spanish Republic.

Further we learn that Hemingway’s human behavior during war is invariably marked by the seal of courage. The author dwells on the important words of Hemingway “To write the truth about the war is very dangerous, and it is very dangerous to find out the truth … »

In conclusion the author asks whether it is worth to risk to find this truth — let the writers judge themselves.

I think that the words of the great writer are very important. His vision а life is worth considering.
