At the Airport

Helen arrives at the airport to catch a plane to Paris. When she arrives at the checkpoint, she chooses Green Channel because she doesn’t have anything to declare. But you know if you have some dutiable or prohibited items you carry them at the Red Channel. All such goods should be produced to the checkpoint officers at the entry point for examination. Making a false or an incorrect declaration is an offence under the law.

At the check-in-counter, a ticket agent looks at her ticket and her passport; her baggage is checked in (weighed on the scales). Helen’s suitcases are very heavy, so she has to pay an excess baggage charge (amount of money for additional weight). Then she is given a boarding pass (a ticket that allows her to get on the plane). The boarding pass has a seat number written on it, Helen is given a window seat. Her suitcases are labeled and sent off to be loaded into the hold of the airplane. While waiting for the flight to be announced, Helen goes to the newsstand to buy a newspaper. Then she goes through the security check, where her carry-on luggage (the bags she is keeping with her on the plane) is searched. Then Helen goes to the duty-free shop where she can buy perfume, alcohol and tobacco, handbags, cosmetics, watches, sunglasses, leather and name brand goods at DutyFree.com cosmetics, watches, sunglasses, leather and name brand goods at lower cost. The goods she is buying here are cheap because they are not taxed. In the departure lounge Helen joins the other passengers who are sitting and waiting until it is time for their flight to depart. After a few minutes Helen hears the announcement: Flight 156 to Paris is boarding at Gate Three, and she goes to board (get on) her plane.
