The big and famous cities of the UK are Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast and others. Birmingham is long famous as an international business centre. It has developed into a modern and exciting city, which buildings and shops are second to none. Birmingham is at heart of Britain’s motorway system. Massive post-war development brought exciting new buildings, but the best of the old ones have been preserved. The city’s museum and art gallery has some of the finest examples of European painting. Birmingnam’s ultra-modern library is one of the largest and best stocked in Europe and includes the Shakespeare Memorial Library with 40,000 books in 90 languages. Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is also a great city of more than half a million inhabitants. The city is built of stone, not brick. The houses look hard and solid. Some people would call them grim, especially on a wet day, but when the sun shines beautifully in the city the city looks fine. Its many bookshops, taverns, and clubs some of world-famous people visited at different times. Among them were Dr. Johnson and Robert Burns. One of the famous avenues in the world is the Prince’s Street in Edinburgh. It is the finest street and a shopping area of the city. Glasgow is the third largest city of Great Britain. You may feel its industrial energy everywhere in the city. The city extends along both banks of the river Clyde. With each phase of its development it has stretched, until its outskirts now lie several miles from the city centre. It is, by far, the largest and most populous city in the whole of Scotland. Glasgow is known the world over for its ship-building. Glasgow-built locomotives run in every part of the world. Today Glasgow is of such a size that it extends far over both banks of the river. Clyde and bridges are as essential for the conduct of activities as are the people themselves. Within a distance of a mile there are 7 bridges. They carry road and rail traffic in and out of the city. No other city of Scotland has or needs as many river crossings as Glasgow Cardiff, the capital of Wales, lies near the mouth of the river Taff. In the days of our great-grandparents Cardiff was a tiny village. Today there are about a quarter of a million people living there. Cardiff is now the largest town in Wales and is noted for its coal. There is also a delightful park in the city which everyone tries to see. This is Cathay’s Park. The Law Courts, City Hall and University buildings in Cathay’s Park are worthy of any city in the world.
1. What city is build of stone?
2. Where does extend the third largest city in the UK?
3. How many books is the modern library stocked with?
4. What city used to be a village?
5. Why are the river and bridges so important? a) something old is kept preserved

Many people around the world learn two or three languages during their lifetime. Sometimes their motivation is to speak with relatives and neighbors, sometimes for a job or travel, sometimes for the love of a culture or a heritage. Parents of young learners often consider the benefits of learning a language as an investment in education and employment opportunities. Many people recognize the cognitive value of bilingualism as well. Around the world, English is the most popular additional language for people to learn for personal, academic, or professional purposes. The global marketplace and the increasing use of English-medium instruction at university contributes to the need for learners to strengthen their English skills. The English language classroom that uses up-to-date teaching methodologies is an excellent place to acquire 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, and intercultural competence. Content-based English, where students study academic English through cross-curricular content, is an ideal approach for developing students’ English language fluency and literacy for success at university and beyond. Here are some elements that help learners acquire curricular subject area knowledge and academic English language skills in meaningful and engaging ways: Addressing a Big Question, Ramping up Vocabulary, Combining Info and Narrative Text, etc. With a thought-provoking question guiding them, students can use discussion, reading, and writing as tools to expand and grow ideas. When a Big Question is introduced at the beginning of a unit, the teacher can build a concept map that lists what students already know about the topic as well as they want to know. Teachers can also use a Big Question as a jumping off point for vocabulary, phonics, grammar, and writing instruction and provide students with opportunities to be creative while integrating their growing knowledge of the content and English through oral presentations and writing projects. In order to discuss the Big Questions effectively, learners need to use new content-specific words and phrases and general academic terms. These words are carefully selected and directly taught to augment the students’ understanding of the topic, prepare them for the reading selections, and scaffold their ability to have academic discussions. Repeated practice–through reading and writing tasks and structured opportunities for talk–moves these words into long-term memory and lets students make words their own. Direct teaching of specific key words facilitates vocabulary growth and increases reading comprehension making it sufficient. Traditional language instruction uses texts that tell stories and are controlled for vocabulary and sentence structure. But by using authentic literature and a combination of informational and narrative text, students are better prepared for academic instruction. Each text supports the inquiry approach with thematically paired fiction and non-fiction, organized in service of the Big Question. Thus, such elements of teaching prepare learners for English classes by giving them practice with key academic language and content topics. The lessons give students opportunities to learn key academic and subject-specific vocabulary, read related fiction and nonfiction texts, and apply new knowledge to real-world situations while investigating new foreign language.  1. When students can be creative?
2. What skills do the learners need to strengthen?
3. Where do the students come to apply the knowledge?
4. Where do the words move through practice? 5. What is thematically organized in service of the Question? a)the pace or speed of speech fluency
b)native; coming from the origin aboriginal
 c)goals at work purposes
d)the stock of special words Vocabulary

1.It’s a well-known fact, that the geographical position very often influences the climate and weather of any country. The United States is no exception. Here, the Cascade Mountains and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, due to their being close to the west coast, catch the largest share of the rain off the Pacific Ocean. As a result there is too little rain for almost the whole western half of the Unites States, which lies in the «rain shadow» of the mountains. In a great part of that territory farmers must depend on irrigation water from the snows or rains. One of the most important geographic boundaries in the United States is the 50-centimeter rainfall line. It runs north and south almost through the middle of the country. East of the line, farming here is easy and the population is relatively large. West of the line, you can find man-made irrigation systems, dry-farming and grazing. There are fewer people living here. West of the RockyMountains, there are vast areas without any trees. In this part of the country are the deserts which receive as little as over 12 centimeters of rainfall a year. If there were no mountains or oceans, then the amount of the heat would progress from north to south. Instead, there are all kinds of unexpected differences in climate. For example, all along the western coast, the temperature changes little between summer and winter. The climate along the northern part of this coast is similar to that of England. But in the north central part of the country, summer and winter are very different. There the average difference between July and January is 36 degrees centigrade (°C). The coldest days of a typical January day may be — 40 degrees °C, and the hottest July day may be +45 degrees °C. In the eastern part of the United States, the difference between summer and winter is also distinct, but not so extreme. Near the southwestern corner of the country, the climate is mild and spring like in winter. The variations in temperature within the United States have had a marked effect on the country’s economy and living standards. There is a long crop-growing season along the south-east coast where cotton is a principal product. In some of the cooler climates or in climates which combine coolness and humidity, people grow apples, wheat and corn. This gives the United States a large variety of agricultural products.
1. Where is the climate like across the Atlantic Ocean?
2. What part of the country the warm and cold seasons are extremely different in?
3. How does the temperature affect the main product of the area?
4. Why do people depend on rains?
5. What is the average and minimum of a rainfall line? a)the area or land at the oceanline coast
b)food from cropgrowing season product
c)the line that divides the area boundary
d)the practice of supplying land with water so that crops and plants will grow irrigation systems e)look or be very much alike similar
