The full name of the institution is the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education «MIREA — Russian Technological University».

Previously, it was the Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation.

The higher educational institution in Moscow was established in 2015 as a result of the merger of MIREA, MGUPI, MITHT named after M. V. Lomonosov and a number of educational, scientific, design and production organizations.

The educational process takes place on 7 campuses which are equipped with modern equipment with a multi-service infrastructure and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Since 2013, the post of RTU MIREA Rector has been occupied by Stanislav Kudzh, Doctor of Technical Sciences, full member of the Academy of Military Sciences, member of the Scientific Council under the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Currently, about 26,000 students study at the university.

The teaching staff of RTU MIREA includes 21 academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

There are more than 280 members of other, including international, academies and scientific societies.

In 2018, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation decided to create a new federal institution «MIREA — Russian Technological University», which included Moscow State Technical University of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation (MGTU MIREA); Moscow State University of Instrument Engineering and Informatics (MGUPI); Moscow State University of Fine Chemical Technologies named after M. V. Lomonosov (MITHT named after M. V. Lomonosov); Russian Research Institute of Information Technologies and Computer-Aided Design Systems (FGBU RosNII ITiAP); All-Russian Research Institute of Technical Aesthetics (VNIITE); Institute of Professional Administration and Integrated Energy Efficiency (IPK of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia); Institute of Modern Educational Technologies and Projects (ISOTP).

RTU MIREA has more than 50 basic departments at research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, design bureaus and high-tech enterprises in Moscow and the Moscow region.

Among them are Federal State Budgetary Institution «NITsEM named after A.I. N. F. Gamalei”, National Medical Research Center for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology named after Dmitry Rogachev, “Optical Systems and Technologies” at JSC “LZOS” of the State Corporation “Rostec”, “Information and Control Computing Systems” and “Space Radio Electronics” at JSC Kometa Corporation, Electronic Warfare Systems at JSC TsNIRTI im. Academician A. I. Berg, which is part of the Concern VKO Almaz-Antey; M. F. Stelmakh”, “Best Available Technologies and Regulatory Practices” at the FGAU “Research Institute “CEPP””.

Since 2015, RTU MIREA has been implementing a program to create megalaboratories.

There are universal scientific and technical centers that combine the developments of several departments or institutes and combine educational, scientific and production capabilities.

The educational programs of RTU MIREA are certified not only according to Russian, but also according to international standards.

The university is a member of Association of European Technical Universities — T.I.M.E. (Top Industrial Managers for Europe), Association of Technical Universities of Russia and China — ATYPK, International Association of Universities, European Association of Managers and Administrators in the Field of Scientific Research, University League of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
