A Spanish motorist has been jailed for eight months after customs officers found seven kilos of cocaine hidden in the fuel tank of his car.

Mariano Martinez, 48, drove his Renault through Plymouth Ferry port last October after sailing from Santander in northern Spain.

His smuggling bid was foiled by drug detector dog Josh, who gave a positive identification after which officers searched the car.

Forensic analysis of the drugs later revealed that almost five kilos of the seven were 100 per cent pure cocaine.

Martinez was sentenced at a hearing at Plymouth Crown Court last month

The article is headlined “Dangerous Human Smuggling Attempt Foiled by Laredo Sector Border Patrol”. The author of the article is  unknown. The article was published on the site www.cbp.gov on June 16, 2021. The article deals human smuggling attempt.

The author starts by telling the reader that Laredo North Station agents apprehen?ded several individuals during a failed human smuggling attempt.

The article describes the situation which was during the mid-afternoon on June 13. According to the text agents observed a U-Haul moving truck traveling north on the west access road near the 30 mile-marker of I-35.

The author writes points out that the agents initiated a vehicle stop and discovered 27 undocumented individuals in the unventilated cargo area of the moving truck.  The temperature inside the cargo compartment was a sweltering 106 degrees Fahrenheit. It is important to note that with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, transporting large groups of people without PPE in close and often dangerous quarters, endangers the individuals and the safety of our Nation

In conclusion it is told that human smugglers continue to have no regard for the safety and health of the people they exploit for profit.
