A general in a train

The train was overcrowded. An old woman with a heavy basket got into a carriage (вагон). She went along the carriage. Nobody gave her a seat. When she came to the place where a general was sitting, he stood up and gave his seat to her. Suddenly some people stood up and offered their seats to the general.

But he said: «If there was no seat for the old woman, there is no seat for me».

Answer the questions.

Who got into the carriage? An old woman with a heavy basket got into a carriage.

Did anybody offer her a seat? Nobody gave her a seat.

Who gave her a seat? A general stood up and gave his seat to her.
