The Lord Chancellor is the Speaker of the House of Lords and the ultimate head of the Judiciary in that he is the chief judge in the country, and controls the administration of the courts of law. He is also the Chairman of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. He advises the Crown on the appointment of High Court Judges, and Circuit Judges.

The Judiciary of the United Kingdom is not a single body. Each of the separate legal systems in England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland have their own judiciary.

The judges of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, the Special Immigration Appeals Commission, Employment Tribunals, Employment Appeal Tribunal and the UK tribunals system do have a United Kingdom wide jurisdiction.

The judges of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom are known as Justices of the Supreme Court, and they are also Privy Counsellors. Justices of the Supreme Court are granted the courtesy title Lord or Lady for life.

The Supreme Court is a relatively new Court being established in October 2009 following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. Formerly, the Highest Court of Appeal in the United Kingdom was the House of Lords Appellate Committee made up of Lords of Appeal in Ordinary, also known as Law Lords, which with other Lord Justices now form the Supreme Court. Such Law Lords were allowed to sit in the House of Lords and were members for life.

The Supreme Court is headed by the President and Deputy President of the Supreme Court and is composed of a further ten Justices of the Supreme Court.

The Justices do not wear any gowns or wigs in court, but on ceremonial occasions they wear black damask gowns with gold lace without a wig.

A summons is usually confined to very minor offences. The hearing (of the charge or summons) before the Magistrates is known as a «first appearance».

My name is Valentin Ivin. I was born on the 28 June, 1975 in Sarov. I work as an inspector of traffic police.  I am a student of the Nizny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of the Interior.

I have a lovely family. I have a son. His name is Ivan. He is very nice.  My wife is a teacher. Her name is Maria. My family is very friendly. On Saturdays we attend a swimming pool. On weekends my family goes shopping. We usually buy some fruit, groceries and other food, sweets and nice toys for our son. On Sundays we cook together in the kitchen and gather at table in the evening to have a nice delicious dinner. I love my family!

Also we have a big pet. We like to look after our dog. Its name is Mushket. I like to have fun with my favourite pet.

I am a student of the Nizny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of the Interior. I am a first-year cadet. I study law. I like to study. We study from Monday till Friday. The study begins at 8 o’clock and ends at 16 o’ clock. My favourite subjects are Law and English. After lessons I go to the library. I love swimming.
