Carriages and wagons

Today, the railroads have several classes of passenger and freight cars.

The box car is the most common type of covered car. It is a general – purpose car intended to carry all kinds of ordinary goods which must be protected from the weather. A special type of box car is a refrigerator car used for hauling food products. The walls, floor and roof of this wagon are air – and water proof  to protect  goods from the heat of the outside air. Another type of car is a tank car intended for liquid goods. The long cylindrical tank of the car is filled through an opening on the top and emptied through a special device in the bottom. The sixteen-wheel hopper is designed for transporting special goods which are not affected by atmosphere conditions. The most useful method of door-to-door transport used by railways is the container. Double-deck cars are used to carry automobiles.

The air-conditioned passenger cars are intended for use on long-distance service. These  air-conditioned cars have berths for 42 passengers, vestibule, heating compartment, toilet, conductor’s compartment.

Задание 4. Переведите письменно на русский язык  2 – ой абзац текста.

Крытый грузовой вагон — самый распространенный тип крытого транспорта. Это универсальный автомобиль, предназначенный для перевозки всех видов обычных товаров, которые должны быть защищены от погодных условий. Особенным типом крытого грузового вагона является холодильник, используемый для перевозки пищевых продуктов. Стены, пол и крыша этого вагона являются воздухо- и водонепроницаемыми для защиты товаров от тепла наружного воздуха.

Другой тип вагона – это цистерна, предназначенная для транспортировки жидких грузов. Длинный цилиндрический бак автомобиля заполняется через отверстие сверху и сливается через специальное устройство на дне. Шестнадцатиколесный бункер предназначен для перевозки специальных товаров, на которые не оказывают влияния атмосферные условия. Наиболее полезным методом перевозки «от двери до двери», который используют железные дороги, является контейнер. Для перевозки автомобилей используются двухэтажные вагоны.
