Глоссарий должен состоять из 20 терминов, к каждому термину идет определение на английском языке, в конце идет список литературы

  1. affricates—  a consonant sound that begins as a stop (sound with complete obstruction of the breath stream) and concludes with a fricative (sound with incomplete closure and a sound of friction).
  2. glottal stop a type of consonantal sound used in many spoken languages, produced by obstructing airflow in the vocal tract
  3. aspiration— an acoustic effect (noise) during the pronunciation of a sound that occurs if the ligaments begin to vibrate after a significant period of time (40-100 ms) after the end of the consonant articulation.
  4. Palatalisationa phonological process by which consonants acquire secondary palatal articulation or shift their primary place to, or close to, the palatal region.
  5. prehead the group of unstressed syllables preceding the head (if present) or nucleus (if there is no head).
  6. sentence stress the emphasis that certain words have in utterances.
  7. quantitative reduction shortening of a vowel sound in the unstressed position, affects mainly long vowels
  8. assimilation— the process of changing the articulation of a consonant in a speech stream under the influence of an adjacent consonant
  9. sibilant— fricative consonant of higher amplitude and pitch, made by directing a stream of air with the tongue towards the teeth
  • plosion— the sound of an abrupt break or closure, esp the audible release of a stop.
  • incomplete plosion When a plosive consonant is immediately followed by another plosive, only the second plosive is fully exploded, the first plosive is incomplete. This is known as incomplete plosion, which often takes place at the junction of words
  • nasal plosion a unique sound that native speakers sometimes use in words that have a final unstressed D + N combination
  • low fall the sound falls from the lower (or middle) level to the very bottom of the tone.
  • sense-group a tone-group in intonation
  • lenis consonant a “weak” consonant produced by the lack of tension in the vocal apparatus.
  • constrictive consonants those in the production of which the air stream meets an incomplete obstruction in the resonator, so the air passage is constricted.
  • occlusive consonants their production requires a temporary blockage in the airflow
  • backlingual consonants articulated by raising the back part to the soft palate – [k], [g], [ŋ].
  • dorsal consonants Dorsalconsonants are articulated with the mid-body of the tongue (the dorsum).
  • mediolingual consonants produced with the front part of the tongue. They are always palatal.
