The family is one of the main social institutions and the main demographic unit in society. It performs many social functions, of which demographic ones include: giving birth and nursing children; creating conditions conducive to improving the health and life expectancy of family members, ensuring their own stability (this is an important function, since the stability of the institution of the family and the stability of society are largely interdependent).

The family reflects all the social problems characteristic of modern society. All the many problems associated with the modern family can be divided into two groups: social and economic. Socio-economic problems include problems connected with the standard of living of the family, its budget, the share in the structure of society of low-income families and families living below the poverty line, with the specific needs and requirements of large families, the state system of material assistance.

The most difficult to solve in the current crisis situation are economic problems, but they are the most pressing, everyday for the majority of the population of Russia.

The proportion of families with minor children and per capita incomes below the subsistence level is so significant that they still remain the main group of the poor. The level of well-being of families is directly related to the number of children brought up in them.

The low level of wages, which does not meet the needs of the family for the maintenance of dependents, the lag in the size of social payments from the rise in the cost of living are factors that cause widespread poverty among families with minors.

The problems typical for our country closely correlate with global processes and reflect them in a peculiar way. Family life is closely connected with the life of the whole society and each person individually. Therefore, the problems that complicate the situation of all residents undoubtedly affect the situation in the family, and the difficulties that the family is experiencing leave their mark on the well-being of individuals and the entire population as a whole.

One of the most difficult problems of the family is currently financial and economic difficulties, low security, the inability to adequately provide for the life of the family with the help of socially approved methods of activity. In a society with a healthy economy, the presence of permanent employment is a guarantee of job security and the majority of the population is able not only to earn a living, but also to help those who are unable for various reasons.

In our conditions, financing as social minimums of wages, pensions, benefits, etc. So the minimum wage or subsistence minimum are purely calculated indicators and have only an indirect relationship to the real needs of individuals and families or the real minimum standards of survival.

The family budget in our country is based on the equivalent of a husband and wife. The wife’s lack of earnings during parental leave puts the young family in a very difficult position. Of course, the complexity of the problem increases sharply when a child is born in a family of unemployed people, in an incomplete family, in an unmarried mother, in the birth of a disabled child or in disabled parents.

The increasing degree of payment for education, health care, cultural and educational activities is forcing parents to spend more and more funds in order to provide children with a satisfactory social start in an increasingly competitive environment. Children are becoming a social luxury that is increasingly difficult to afford. However, the strategy of demographic behavior only partly depends on the financial situation, being determined, first of all, by internal moral and psychological attitudes.

Another very important problem is related to the living conditions of families. Previously existing methods of resolving it, such as housing construction cooperatives, housing construction by industrial and agricultural enterprises, have almost disappeared. A home loan is extremely expensive and is accompanied by conditions that make it inaccessible to an ordinary family.

I think that these factors influence the structure of a modern fanily.
