  10. How can you prevent and manage difficult types of conflict in your team?

The first step in conflict management is learning how to prevent or minimize conflict. A team leader has several ways to do that. At the beginning of each project, or each meeting, ground rules should be developed. These should incorporate processes or behaviors that the group will allow or prohibit. Ground rules can be useful because as conflict arises, the leader can refer the team back to them for guidance. These tend to be good objective guidelines that remove the leader from the role of enforcer.

Another technique is to develop a team agreement on how the group will resolve conflict if it does occur. This gets them to focus on good resolution behaviors, and prepares the team with a process that is available if necessary.

Have you ever been involved in any conflicts with your colleagues? Can you identify the type of the conflict? Yes, I have. It was the conflict about the quality of my colleague’s work.

What behaviour at work do you find inappropriate or unacceptable? Why?

Behaviour that has created or has the potential to create a risk to a staff member’s health and safety. Examples of unacceptable behaviour include, but are not limited to:

  • bullying
  • emotional, psychological or physical violence or abuse
  • occupational violence
  • discrimination
  • aggressive/abusive behaviour
  • unreasonable demands and undue persistence
  • disruptive behaviour.

Why is it necessary to communicate openly with your team? I think that people feel when you communicate openly and then they can do their work better.

What must be done if you suspect that team members are experiencing conflict? I think one of the ways is to make jokes.

What is the difference between functional and chronological CV? Chronological CV. This format is simple and to-the-point. It begins with a summary which lists accomplishments throughout your career.

Functional CV. The beauty of the functional resume is that it helps to mitigate career flaws such as gaps in employment and job-hopping. But, it is also a way to showcase skills you learned as a result of a non-career path. Perhaps, you learned skills as a result of volunteer activities.

First of all, I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity to introduce myself.

My name is… I have completed my degree in architecture and I completed my higher school studies in Moscow. My father is a doctor, he works in a hospital and my mother is a teacher. I am the only child in the family.

My positive quality is the following – I adopt easily new situation and I have friendly nature.

My negative quality is the following — I very often get tension.
My hobbies are playing guitar, cooking different styles of food and reading novels.

How would your friends or colleagues describe you?

I am responsible, helpful, friendly, open and positive.

What are your strengths?  

I have an extremely strong work ethic. When I’m working on a project, I don’t want just to meet deadlines. Rather, I prefer to complete the project well ahead of schedule. Last year, I even earned a bonus for completing my three most recent reports one week ahead of time.

What are your weaknesses?
